Mental Health is a topic that touches every screen. Every screen, whether it’s cinema, books, movies, T.V. Shows, or Vlogs. People want to learn more and know more. The society where we live is so close behind the doors. Earlier, things were simpler, and people were more physically active. However, people have more mental struggles than physical ones. Today’s generation is confined to smartphones, t.v., laptops, and social media. But this is not the story we want to know. We want to know how we can find happiness in the present.
Mental Health Awareness Month starts from May 1 to May 31 to promote the idea of a sound mind and body. Yes, we love watching movies and shows on Netflix. Indeed we do want to know about some mental health shows on Netflix. Don’t worry! We have brought a few good lists for you.
Here we bring you mental health movies and shows on Netflix 2022 to watch.
Never Have I Ever
Ever we thought this show would bring joy and life when it premiered in April 2021. But yes, it brings joy and a message from a teen youth who suffers from PTSD after her father’s death because of a heart attack. After her father’s sudden death Devi Vishwakumar, an Indian-American teen, lost her sense of feeling in her legs. As the show progresses, Devi takes counseling while coping with grief. Devi paralysis is the result of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
The show beautifully explains Devi’s dilemma, struggles, confusion about love, and fight to fit in. Devi finds happiness in her three friends. The reason why this show gives a good view of Mental Health even after her father’s loss, she has a spark and academic profile in school. She gets support from her mother, and the duo’s relationship progresses likewise. Her love for her father is genuine and emotional. She didn’t hide it but expressed herself.
Degrassi: Next Class
Last summer, I got a chance to watch this show and how beautifully they depicted the life of teenagers. The show’s plot talks about teenager’s mental life more closely and details their stories. The show covers the life of teenagers dealing with PTSD, depression, abortion, abuse, anxiety, religion, cyberbullying, faith, and homophobia, among others.
Maya Matlin struggles to sing after a tragic school bus accident. She questions the finding between life and death. Esme dealing with loneliness and no friendships. In the end, a confrontation happens, and the headmistress says, “…Whenever you feel like sharing, do share.” Miles Hollingsworth III deals with pride and prejudice in taking the writer’s job. The episode says that he suffers from his father’s abuse. His father doesn’t want to take up a writer’s job. Every character is a journey and story to help yourself.
The Edge Of Seventeen
After her father’s death at age of thirteen, Nadine finds companionship in her only best friend Krista. Nadine’s relationship with her brother and mother is not so good. Nadine, a seventeen-year-old teenager, shares her emotional prejudice with her school teacher Max Burner. Max somehow is a counselor for her. After Nadine’s best friend falls in love with his brother Darian, things turn out to be ugly. Nadine went on a date with someone from her school whom she found online, and he rejected her. One day, she drives her car to school and confesses to Mr. Burner for killing herself.
Nadine struggles with loneliness, rejection, and self-image issues. In the end, she finds new ropes of hope and goes to a film festival where life gives her something new.
Atypical
Atypical is a story of Sam Gardner on the Autism spectrum. Sam wants a relationship, and the journey of life revolves around sam. He like everyone else lives a normal life and has been on unsuccessful dates. Sam loves Julia, but when he finds out someone else is going to propose to her, he feels devastated.
On that note, this show gives the life of Autism people and their representation of living without feeling tabooed.
