Jada was Born in Baltimore, Maryland. Eventually, her name was after her mother’s favourite soap opera actress, Jada Rowland. After graduating in 1989 in dance and theatre, her career in acting began in 1990 with an episodic role in True Colors and guest roles in television shows such as Doogie Howser, M.D. (1991) and 21 Jump Street (1991). Eventually, a decade later, in 2002, Pinkett Smith launched a music career as the lead singer and songwriter for the heavy metal band Wicked Wisdom. And in 2004, she published a children’s book, Girls Hold Up This World, which landed at number two on The New York Times Best Seller list.
In the same year, 2001, Jada had a starring role alongside her husband, Will Smith, as Sonji Roi, the first wife of boxer Muhammad Ali, in the biographical drama Ali. Jada married Will on December 31st, 1997, when she was three months pregnant, in a private wedding attended by 100 people.

In the earlier days, Pinkett Smith had a close friendship with rapper Tupac Shakur. At the time, they were both attending the Baltimore School for the Arts. Later Pinkett Smith appeared in the music videos “Keep Ya Head Up” (1993) and “Temptations” (1995), both of them featuring Tupac. She shared the concept for his “California Love” (1995) music video and had intended to direct it. However, Jada removed herself from the project.

In 2018, Pinkett Smith was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease alopecia areata. Despite having medical tests, she said she wasn’t able to find the cause of her alopecia. “And that it might be stress,” Jada suspects. In a shared video on her Instagram account in December 2021 showing herself with a shaved head, Jada says; “Now at this point, I can only laugh” (…) “Mama’s gonna have to take it down to the scalp so, nobody thinks she got brain surgery or something. I and this alopecia are going to be friends… period!”

Nevertheless, Jada’s best-known role to date is the part of human rebel Niobe in the films The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and The Matrix Revolutions (2003), sequels to 1999’s The Matrix. She starred in the related video game Enter The Matrix (2003). Interestingly, the character Niobe was written keeping Pinkett Smith in mind. Eventually, after she filmed her scenes for Ali, Pinkett Smith flew to Australia to work on the Matrix sequels. The sequel’s total earnings peaked at over $91 million and $48 million during their North American opening weekends, respectively.
